MARCH 4 – STATEMENT NO 5 ON FLOODING FROM WICKHAMBREAUX PARISH COUNCIL

Further update report on the water issues from Wickhambreaux Parish Council.

The Environment Agency and ourselves are continuing to deal with the current water situation. The levels at the mills are continuing to reduce but Wickham Lane, Ickham has only seen a slight reduction.

Over the last seven days we have had quite a top up again, with 37mm of rain and the groundwater levels are still very high.

All pumps at Stourmouth and Wickham Lane are working flat out and doing a great job. Over the last fourteen days the water levels in the Grove area have dropped by only 5 inches. Prior to that it was rising at 2.5 inches a day so one can see it is going to take a long time to drain from this area – we need to remain vigilant.

Obviously the roads around Grove and Ickham that are already closed will remain so for some time to come.

When all this is behind us the sandbags will need to be returned – details will follow in due course – and we will also review the last few weeks in some depth. In the meantime please be assured we are continuing to monitor the water levels.
